Collagen Won’t Save You, Salah Might
Share
Collagen supplements are everywhere these days. Every other ad promises glowing skin, youthful energy, or even reversing aging. We sip collagen powders, buy collagen creams, and click “add to cart” on anti-aging serums hoping they will slow down the inevitable. But here’s the truth most people don’t want to hear: collagen won’t save you. Salah might.
And no, that’s not morbid. That’s liberating.
Because here’s the reality: you’re going to die. I’m going to die. Your mom, your cat, your friends, and yes, even the auntie who insists you still need to get married—every single one of us will face death. Islam doesn’t shy away from this truth. In fact, it reminds us constantly of it—not to depress us, but to wake us up.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Remember often the destroyer of pleasures (death).”
Not to make you anxious. Not to paralyze you. But to remind you that this life is not forever. And once you truly internalize that, you stop wasting it.
This blog is going to shake you. It’s going to make you rethink the way you scroll, the way you pray (or delay praying), the grudges you hold, and even the way you stress over messages left on read. Because once you accept death, you finally start living.
So let’s talk about why collagen won’t save you—but salah might.
Why Collagen Won’t Save You
We live in a world obsessed with anti-aging solutions. Search any skincare forum, and you’ll find endless conversations about collagen supplements, hyaluronic acid, retinol, and ways to fight wrinkles. Collagen is marketed as the “fountain of youth”—something that can restore elasticity, erase fine lines, and make you look younger than you really are.
But here’s the uncomfortable truth:
- Collagen won’t stop death.
- No cream will stop the grave.
- No supplement will keep you here forever.
Yes, collagen has benefits. It improves skin, supports joints, and can boost confidence. But what it cannot do is change your qadr (destiny).
We chase youth and beauty like we can outsmart time. But every second is leading us closer to one reality: the end of this dunya. And Islam is clear about it—this world is temporary, and the next life is eternal.
So here’s the question: if we put as much effort into our salah as we do into our skincare routine, how different would our akhirah look?
Why Islam Reminds Us of Death
Here’s something that might sound counterintuitive: remembering death makes life better.
Think about it. When you remember you’re going to die:
- You stop scrolling past your children while they’re trying to talk to you.
- You stop postponing salah because you’re “just tired.”
- You stop holding grudges as if you’re guaranteed another Eid to make amends.
- You stop wasting Ramadan stressing about who didn’t text you back.
Instead, you become intentional. Present. Grateful. Alive.
In Islam, we don’t avoid the conversation about death. We literally make dua for a “husn al-khatimah”—a good ending. We ask Allah, “Ya Allah, grant me a good ending.” That’s how central it is to our faith.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Live in this world as though you are a stranger or a traveler.”
A traveler doesn’t waste time decorating the hotel room because they know they’re just passing through. That’s exactly what life is: a temporary stop before the real home—Jannah or Jahannam.
So instead of collagen, maybe what we need is consciousness of the akhirah.
What Happens When You Truly Accept Death
Here’s the irony: once you accept that you’re going to die, you finally start living.
You cry less over dumb things.
You laugh more at yourself.
You become present with your family.
You stop obsessing over likes, followers, and comments.
Why? Because none of it goes back with you. Not your collagen. Not your shoes. Not your phone. Not even your perfectly curated Instagram feed. The only things that follow you are:
- Your deeds
- Your duas
- Your debt
Yes, even debt. So maybe pay off that Afterpay too.
When you start remembering death regularly, you stop living like you have 97 lifetimes left. Suddenly, salah is no longer a burden—it’s a gift. It’s a connection. It’s an anchor.
And here’s the thing: Salah is not about empty rituals. Salah is about aligning yourself with purpose. It’s the check-in with your Creator that says, “Ya Allah, I’m still here. I still remember You. I still choose You over this dunya.”
So ask yourself: do you really want to face death with collagen in your cart but missed salah on your record?
Live Like Jannah is Your Goal
So here’s where I’ll be blunt: stop wasting your one wild Ramadan on meaningless drama. Stop carrying grudges as if tomorrow is promised. Stop living like dunya is the destination.
Because you’re going to die—and that’s the most motivating fact you’ll ever hear.
When you remember death, you:
- Pray with more khushu’ (focus).
- Forgive quicker.
- Love deeper.
- Stress less about people’s opinions.
- Prepare more for the akhirah.
So collagen won’t save you—but salah might. Not because salah keeps you alive longer, but because it prepares you for the only life that truly matters.
Live like Jannah is your goal, and this dunya is just a detour.
Practical Tips to Start Today
- Set your salah alarms before you set your skincare routine.
- Say the dua for a good ending daily: “Allahumma inni as’aluka husn al-khatimah.”
- Reflect on death once a day. Even if it’s just reminding yourself, “I could leave this world tonight.”
- Pay off your debts. Spiritual and financial.
- Invest in deeds like you invest in serums. Charity, kindness, and forgiveness go further than collagen ever could.
Death is the one reality none of us can escape. But instead of fearing it, Islam teaches us to prepare for it. To remember it often. To let it sharpen our focus and make us live intentionally.
So yes, take care of your body. Use collagen if you like. Hydrate, eat well, and be kind to yourself. But don’t let these things distract you from what actually matters.
Because collagen won’t save you.
Salah might.
If this blog struck a nerve between your aqeedah and your dunya, good. That means your heart is still awake.
